Awards and Scholarships
Polytechnic West has a range of options available to students which are designed to assist with the upfront costs of course fees and materials. For more information on any of these options, contact a Customer Service Officer.
The following programs, allowances and scholarships are additional ways in which you can get help.
PROFIT FROM EXPERIENCE
The Profit from Experience program may be able to assist with up to $500 if you are:
• Aged 40 or over (35 for Indigenous students);
• Unemployed, underemployed, or soon to be retrenched; and/or
• Not receiving any Intensive Assistance from the Commonwealth Government’s Job Network.
To be eligible for assistance, you should register for the Profit from Experience program before enrolling at Polytechnic West, however, if you enrol before registering then just be sure to register for the Profit from Experience program at any Employment Directions Network as soon as possible. To speak to your nearest Employment Directions Network please phone 13 64 64.
SMITH FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPS
There are several types of scholarships available to young people between the ages of 15 and 25 through Smith Family. These scholarships are generally available to full-time students (including pre-apprentices and apprentices) holding a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession card. Scholarships are usually for the duration of training. To find out more, contact the Smith Family on 9459 6302 or 9250 8840 or 9250 8865.
BCITF PRE-APPRENTICE SCHOLARSHIP
The Building and Construction Industry Training Fund provides a scholarship of $250 to students who have successfully complete a pre-apprenticeship course in any of the building and construction trades. In addition, employers who indenture a person with a pre-apprentice qualification are paid a $500 bonus. For more information please contact the BCITF on 9381 3900 (after you complete your pre-apprentice training and before you are engaged with an employer).
